College Clubs and Activities

Many clubs and societies offer students the opportunity to go beyond the bare requirements of their courses. Participating in extra-curricular activities is a way to make friends and gain experience as team members.

Punjabi Sahitya Sabha

  • Objective: Encourage interest in literature and encourage students to read, write and speak in Punjabi.
  • Activities: Face-to-face interaction with well-known Punjabi scholars and writers, debates, poetry recitals and speech competitions. Open to students of the Punjabi Department.
  • In-Charge: Prof Kulwinder Singh and Prof. Balkar Singh.

Hindi Sahitya Parishad

  • Objective: Encourage interest in literature and encourage students to read, write and speak in in Hindi.
  • Activities: Discussion of new books, debates, poetry recitals and speech competitions; celebrates Hindi Day on September 14. Open to students of the Hindi Department.
  • In-Charge: Dr. Rita Rawat

English Literary Society

  • Objective: Encourage interest in literature and encourage students to read, write and speak in English.
  • Activities: Conducts inter-class debates, declamations, poetry recitation and paper-writing competitons. Open to students of the English Department.
  • In-Charge: Prof Suman Rani

Red Ribbon Club

  • Objective: Spread knowledge about healthy lifestyle and disease prevention. AIDS awareness is a strong focus. This club enables students to make the general public aware of health issues.
  • Activities: Conducts lectures and discussions, poster-making contests and holds rallies to spread awareness of what to do and not do in order to lead a healthy life.
  • In-Charge: Profs Sukhjinder Kaur and Gurpreet Singh

Cultural Society

  • Objective: Help students to develop their personalities, hone their talents and gain self-confidence by involving them in all types of performances.
  • Activities: Prepares for Youth Festival events and conducts cultural activities in the college.
  • In-Charge: Profs Balkar Singh and Kulwinder Singh

Sports Club

  • Objective: Motivate students to participate in sports.
  • Activities: Helps students take part in competitions conducted by the university from time to time and organises their transportation to such competitions.
  • In-Charge: Prof. Satinder Singh

Gardening Club

  • Objective: Beautify the campus and develop appreciation of nature.
  • Activities: Plants and maintains a green and blooming campus. In 2020 the club planted 70 varieties of plants on a three-acre area designated “Nanak’s Garden”. This project was carried out in collaboration with the Round Glass Foundation. Any staff member or student interested in gardening can join.
  • In-Charge: Prof. Gurpreet Singh

NCC

  • Objective: Motivate students to take up a career in the Armed Forces, develop character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, and ideals of selfless service.
  • Activities: NCC camps are held throughout the year and it participates in Republic Day and Independence Day ceremonies at District level NCC (Army Wing) has a total number of 54 seats. Among the cadets recruited, 25% seats are reserved for girls.
  • In-Charge: Prof. Amandeep Singh

NSS

  • Objective: Develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. The NSS is a programme of the Government of India.
  • Activities: In 2020 NSS members took part in a week-long campe and several one day camps. During the seven-day camp, awareness rallies were held in nearby villages to create awareness against straw burning. The students were also briefed on dengue prevention and drug abuse. NSS Volunteers take an active part in the beautification and community building work around the college. Two units are operational.

Scholarships

The government offers two types of Scholarship. These are SC/OBC Scholarship and Minority Scholarship.

The Baba Nanak Educational Society which runs the college also offers scholarships to children of suicide-affected families. Students should consult the Scholarship Cell to learn if they are eligible for scholarship. The Cell  assists  students to apply.

Fee Concession

If two or more children of a family are studying in JSJ College their total fees will be reduced by Rs 1000 /- This discount will be given on the last instalment of tuition. The parent or guardian of these students must request in writing waiver from the Principal.

Fees will be waived only if the student regularly attends lectures, shows satisfactory results in studies and gets good marks in college home examinations.

Fee waiver may be withdrawn if there are complaints regarding the student’s behaviour or if the student has committed irregularities or neglected their studies.

The same rule applies to any type of scholarship.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS:

To foster a sense of discipline among the students, a code of conduct has been laid down by the college. The institution expects the students to observe this code of conduct strictly.

1. No student will be allowed to enter the college premises without the college identity card.
2. Students must maintain discipline and decorum in and outside the classrooms.
3. No damage to the college property will be condoned under any circumstances.

Students who are found guilty of infringement of code of conduct shall be liable to punishment in the form of fine, expulsion from the college and withdrawal of admission from the University depending on the seriousness of the offence. The college can refuse admission to such students in the coming years.
